Lake Louise ski area

Today we biked to the ski area and took the lifts to the top of the ski slope. On the way up 4 different people told us there was a grizzly in the meadow and we assumed it was probably fake, but actually, it was real.

After seeing the bear and the electric fence to bear proof the visitor center we naturally decided to still exit through the gate and go for the hike to the kicking horse look out. (We did talk to three rangers about safety before going). We survived.

After dinner, we tried to sneak into the chateau. George and I got in, but they apparently didn’t want our business. It wasn’t nearly as cool as the banff springs hotel, nor as welcoming.

Lake Louise: Tea houses and Little Beehive.

Another great hike in banff national Park at Lake Louise. We all biked to Lake Louise (Ringo was in the dog pack) and then hiked to Lake Agnes where we got tea from the tea house and took a short rest. Then, we hiked to Little Beehive to have lunch. It was pretty strenuous, but absolutely worth it.

We split up after lunch and George and I hiked to the other tea house in the valley of 6 glaciers.

I’ve taken so many pictures the last 2 days. I’ll try to limit myself.

Yesterday we started the day with a short hike to lake Minnewanka

Then, whole gang rode the gondola to the top of sulfer mountain. The trip was short 7-8 minutes but just amazing views from the top. That was our last night in the tunnel mountain trailer court.

Today those of us with e-bikes took the road to moraine lake. The biking was easy and the pay off was outstanding.

Banff

Banff is gorgeous. It is the birth place of Canadian national parks because of the hot springs. We totally invited ourselves all through the Banff springs hotel. It’s beautiful inside and out, but we couldn’t manage to get into the spa. We did go to the upper sulfur springs which did ( and maybe still does) feed the Banff springs hotel’s spa. So, I’d like to believe that somehow my body cells made it down into their spa to spite them. Today after work, we went to lunch with Clay, Jenny and Joel. After lunch, Joel joined us on a hike through Johnson canyon. Two waterfalls and a canyon with a boardwalk. Very cool

Canadian Glacier NP

Well, two beautiful days in a row. Our hike today was to Great glacier (aka the illecillewaet glacier) around Rogers pass in Gnp Canada. Unfortunately, the glacier has receded so that you can’t actually view it from the end of the trail but the panoramic views were amazing. The trail was full of wildflowers and ruins of an old hotel. (You had me at ruins). The hotel (glacier house) was torn down after a double avalanche killed 58 people on the train pass and the train was re-routed through a tunnel.

Golden Rules

When you get to the town of Golden, the tourist pamphlet is called Golden Rules and it does! Situated between Glacier NP (Canadian version) and Yoho National Park, it’s got quite a lot going on. The first day was a rain-out so we just did laundry, slept in and had a George Austin walk-about-the-town. (Which means… We found the local brewery).

Today was beautiful, so we went to Yoho NP where dogs are allowed apparently everywhere. First, we went to Wapta Falls. Then we had leftovers for lunch on the porch of the historic lodge at Emerald Lake. We walked around Emerald Lake and took advice from a fellow trail blazer from Seattle who works for Amazon to walk to Takakkaw falls. Takakkaw Falls is the second highest falls in Canada and only a short distance from where we were. All in all a great day.

Pacific time=tired time

Dworshak State Park has been a nice reprieve but I have to admit, I’m going to be soo happy to quit getting up at 4:30 to get to work by 8 edt. The sun is up when I get up at 4:30 and goes down after I put my sleep mask on. Stella, the firefly petunia, is probably glowing so bright the neighbors have to put their sunglasses on, but I haven’t seen her since Fort Collins.

We’ve gotten a couple of good rides on the bikes, took a nice run, took a hike, & played lots of guitar. We leave tomorrow out the steep scary road. Seriously y’all, I have angst.

McCall, Idaho

Yesterday we had freezing rain and sleet and cold doodles

Instead of cooking outside, we found a nice brewery and had the best shower I’ve had in Idaho.

Today after work we found a leisurely walk up 1900 feet (front 5600 feet to 7500 feet) in 3 miles to Louis Lake. Luckily the pay off was beautiful. We were the only souls on the path besides my mountain spirit animal. I missed him at first, but he stood up and yelled at me.

Sawtooth mountains, Idaho. We love you.

We spent the last 4 days in the Sawtooth recreation Area. The NRA is a great dog friendly beautiful park. It’s got mountains, lakes, dog beaches and great camping facilities.

Off to McCall, Idaho.

Yesterday, I worked but then…

We went down to the lake and hopped on the Greenway with our e bikes. We stopped at Dornan (which I’m not sure but might be the best job location in the park… Or out of the park). There were had a cold beverage and brie before heading back up the hill.
